The historical roots of the monastery winery go back to the 12th century, the time of our founder, Saint Hildegard von Bingen. Even then, the sisters were already successfully growing wine. Today we Benedictine nuns continue this tradition under modern conditions. The monastery winery has 7 hectares of vineyards (83% Riesling, 17% Pinot Noir). In the processing and care of the vineyards, we rely on environmentally friendly cultivation. The wines of the monastery winery have won many awards and can be tasted in the vinotheque in the monastery shop. It is the only monastery winery in Germany that is run entirely by the religious themselves.

The Abbey of St. Hildegard is the official successor to the monasteries on the Rupertsberg and in Eibingen. The neo-Romanesque monastery complex was built between 1900 and 1904 and painted in the Beuron artistic style. The monastery church is considered one of the most successful overall compositions of this art school from the Archabbey of Beuron.
On September 17, 1904, a founding group of 14 Benedictine nuns from the Abbey of St. Gabriel in Prague moved into the newly built monastery. Today the convent counts more than 50 sisters. Their life in the spirit of the Rule of St. Benedict is shaped, as in the times of St. Hildegard, by communal prayer (Gregorian chant) and work, by spiritual reading and contemplation, as well as by community life and hospitality. The community sees itself as a living reminder of God's presence in the world.
The maintenance and passing on of the great inheritance of St. Hildegard is particularly important to the convent. The life and work of the famous monastery founder are scientifically researched here and brought to the attention of the many pilgrims and visitors, as is the unchanged topicality of the Benedictine values and the monastic way of life. In addition to the guest house, the sisters run a large monastery shop, a winery, a restoration workshop for manuscripts and books, as well as a goldsmith and a ceramics workshop.
