The Teufelskadrich is 416 meters high and marks the end of the main Taunus ridge on the Middle Rhine. Channels in which felled wood was transported from the hinterland to the valley are referred to as "Kadrich". According to legend, the devil is said to have lived in the mountain. One day, with the help of some mountain spirits, he kidnapped a knight's daughter from Lorch. Thanks to the courageous efforts of the young hero Rudhelm, the girl was freed and the devil starved to death in a mountain tunnel. After all, that's how he got his name.
