As you run down the sandy trail from the top of St Marthas Hill or are on your way up to the top keep your eyes peeled for this WWII bunker. It's quite a thought, but during the war these bunkers were constructed all along the North Downs Way as a 'last line of defence' to defend against a German invasion. The North Downs Way's elevated position throughout the Surrey Hills meant it was the perfect defensive line.
