The Europakanal near Erlangen was built between 1967 and 1970. This means that the lock between Erlangen and Möhrendorf is already well over 50 years old. Still an ugly concrete building! But now a new lock is to be built next to it and the old one to be demolished - a huge project, very controversial, very expensive.
My personal opinion is that with so few ships going through there now, it's no longer worth it. But you can't leave it like that. Difficult topic.
