The Rau is a big, forest-covered hill. From the crossroads "Die Rau" at 1055 m after 400 m on the trail a small signpost at a tree trunk to the left continues uphill, and after another 400 m on a forest path you are at the summit. Coming from Wintersberg also shows only a small signpost towards the summit.

The Rau summit is located in the middle of the most beautiful forest, the view is therefore limited to trees and mossy ground. And instead of a summit cross, we find a small, nicely made cottage in which the legend of the Raugeist witches is told.

More information about the Raugeisthexen is available at raugeisthexen.de

Here is the text to the legend, retrieved on 24.09.2018 from the o.g. website:

Who are the Ornemer Raugeist Witches? And what is Orne anyway?

Quite simply, Langenordnach is a valley near Titisee-Neustadt. This valley gives its name to the brook that flows through, this stream is the Ordnach. In colloquial language or in the language of the natives, this valley is called "Orne" for short. It's easy.

We, the "Ornemer Raugeisthexen", founded us in 1992. We were then a young bunch (on average 20 years), partly from the Orne, but also from Neustadt and the surrounding area. We wanted to be an independent Fasnachtszunft, which builds everything itself and also determines what we want to do and let. Just not as strict rules as in many other guilds. To get a connection to Langenordnach we have referred to the following legend:

    S'was a long time ago
    a vo de bureslit
The haet gmeint, sin forest is zklei
got in forest, offset the Stei.
    *********
Dark night, in the middle of it,
the G layer was in a sense.
Adem place where the power of,
    it was just Walpurgis Night.
    *********
Luter witch, bes, foolish, un crooked,
    hucke um fierhuffe around.
    I'm sorry for it,
The Bur should go go to the Deifel.
    *********
Erscht the Ma was so badly scared
    hid behind the tree gli.
Take zemme do sin whole muet
    Four again full of Wuet.
    *********
    I'm letting it go lukewarm
grad do obe uf de Rau.
As a Raugeist, you're giving me a ha now
    us the Zit as Buresma.
    *********
If i say you can not jump,
    ritte, hiele, sing, make scary,
    d'Litze, Stei versetze, d'Kie hide.
If i say you can not do it,
    all witch - Deifels thing.
    *********
From another night, do uff em forest
there's de Raugeist - wildi Gstalt.
The witch is like that with a witch
Git's au hit no uff de Dag.
