The walk up to the summit of the East Wirren is strenuous, no matter which direction you are coming from, since the road is pretty steep. The views, however, from 634 meters are exceptional. You can see the sea with large ships and even spot the town of Montrose. If you want a more challenging, but rewarding route between Tarfside and Edzell than walking along the river, this is the way to go.
