Heidelberg Castle is one of the most famous ruins in Germany and the landmark of the city of Heidelberg. The castle ruins, built of red Neckar Valley sandstone, rise 80 meters above the valley floor on the northern slope of the Königstuhl and dominate the view of the old town. The Ottheinrichsbau, one of the palace buildings of the castle, is considered one of the most important German Renaissance buildings.
