Gerd Winner's “Jakobsleiter” sculpture was made in 2000 from Salzgitter steel and stainless steel. The Jacob's ladder or the ladder to heaven is an ascent and descent between earth and heaven, which, according to the biblical story, Jacob saw in a dream vision during his flight from Esau. It stood on the ground and its point reached into the sky. On it he sees angels of God ascending and descending.
