    The monument was built in 1928. in the center of the town, in front of the church. Inscriptions and national symbols are carved on all planes of the obelisk. in 1952 town thugs tried to break the monument. When it failed to do so, they pushed it into a hole dug nearby and buried it. in 1988 the monument was excavated and preserved. in 1990 The monument was restored with the funds of the Joniškis district council and the collective farm.
