The monastery church of Maria Medingen is part of the Dominican convent and was built at the beginning of the 18th century. It has an elaborate decor with magnificent stucco, life-sized wooden figures and elaborate ceiling and wall paintings. After a fire in 2015, the church had to be redeveloped for a lot of money and today it shines almost to its former glory again.

The Monastery Maria Medingen was from the 13th century until the secularization in 1802 a Dominican convent. An inscription on the choir arch of the church mentions the year 1246 as the founding year of the monastery and the Count Hartmann von Dillingen as the founder. 1716 was Mary Magdalene from Stain to Rechtenstein, prioress of the monastery from 1710 to 1728, demolish the old church. The present church was built from 1717 to 1719 by Dominikus Zimmermann, the master builder of the Wieskirche near Steingaden. On August 25, 1721, the consecration of the church by the Augsburg suffragan bishop Johann Jakob von Mayr took place.

The ceiling and wall paintings were executed in 1719/22 by Johann Baptist Zimmermann, the brother of Dominikus Zimmermann.
