Weinheim Castle + Castle Park / Baden-Württemberg 🚴‍♂️

Weinheim Castle is a former castle of the princes of the Electorate of the Palatinate and the current administrative seat of the city of Weinheim.
The castle is comprised of components from various eras. The oldest building, dating from around 1400, includes the gateway of the Upper Gate Tower, which lost its defensive character due to reconstruction at the end of the 17th century. To the north, the Renaissance building of the Electorate of the Palatinate Castle, dating from 1537, is adjacent. Members of the electoral family, such as Ottheinrich, Johann Wilhelm and his wife Anna Maria Luisa Medici, as well as Elisabeth Auguste, spent extended periods here. Next comes the castle section, rebuilt by the Berckheim family in the second half of the 19th century, with the neo-Gothic tower built in 1868. The baroque part of the castle, located south of the Upper Gate, was built in 1725 by the Ulner von Dieburg family. The Castle Park Restaurant is also located here.🚴‍♂️

The adjacent castle park is a well-kept, spacious park landscape with valuable trees, a historic mausoleum, and a beautiful pond. Impressive features include gigantic rhododendron and yew bushes, as well as Germany's largest cedar of Lebanon. Thanks to the mild climate along the Bergstrasse, all kinds of plants originally native to the Mediterranean thrive here. The medicinal plant garden is also located within the castle park.🚴‍♂️
