The Reichenauer Damm is part of a moraine ridge that leads from here across the island to the Mettnau peninsula. It was built in 1838 on the initiative of Napoleon III. The 1300 meter long avenue of poplars is interrupted by the 10 m wide moat, which is passable for smaller boats. The avenue itself marks the southern end of the almost 3000 km long German Avenue Road.
