As part of the construction of the railway, several railway posts, so-called signalman's houses, were built along the Schweinfurt-Meiningen route (between 1872 and 1874). The signalman's job was to operate the barriers, set switches and light and extinguish signal and lighting lanterns during day and night duty. He also had to check the section of the route up to the next signalman's house every day and carry out track maintenance work. With the introduction of new technologies, the signalman's houses became obsolete.
From the beginning, “Bahnposten 12” was looked after by the Halbig family. There was no water, no electricity and no telephone. (Words from the information board)

Idyllically situated high above the Schweinfurt - Meiningen railway line is the "railway guard's house" at railway post 12, which today has no function for train operations.
