The headwaters of the Eider, the "Dröge(n) Eider", flows into Lake Bothkamper coming from the south and leaves it in the southwest near Bissee with the name "Eider".The Bothkamper See and its surroundings are part of the FFH area, the area of the "Upper Eider including lakes", which includes the entire upper reaches of the Eider from the Bothkamper See to the eighth weir.
