The history of the domain goes back to 1141, when this area was donated to the Abbey of Floreffe. The area is located on the edge of the Kempens Plateau and the name also goes back to this: Heng comes from Hang or slope. The area is located at the upper reaches of the Roosterbeek. In 1179 there was already talk of a farm, and in 1400 of a chapel. Beekeeping and sheep farming were practiced, and perhaps fishing as well. In 1798 the domain was sold to a private individual, and since 1850 it has been owned by the Wittouck family. The domain was expanded to 549 ha through purchase, a mansion and a modern farm were created. This was equipped with a water mill and there was a distillery where dozens of people worked and where alcohol was produced. In the early 20th century, a fire broke out, Castle Engelhof was rebuilt in 1903 by Baron Fernand de Beeckman de Vieusart. The facing stone reads: LE CHÂTEAU D'ENGELHOF/A ÉTÉ RECONSTRUIT/PAR LE BARON ET LA BARONNE/FERNAND DE BEECKMAN/DE VIEUSART/- EN L'ANNÉE 1903. A garden in English landscape style was created around the castle.
