The Valle dei Mulini of Lusiana is a beautiful and evocative path that follows the Chiavone Bianco stream from Valle di Sopra to Valle di Sotto (or vice versa) and which takes you back in time, with living testimony to the close bond between man and water: the mills originals with their large wooden wheels (some with working mechanisms) for making flour and baskets from wheat, a mallet for beating iron, a community oven, a sawmill; and then washhouses, canals, embankments, buildings and stone stairs, silent and secluded districts; walk along the 'saliso', an old path paved with pebbles and bordered by dry stone walls. In the period of maximum activity, there were 18 mills!

The route is freely accessible; To see the inside of the buildings and the mechanisms (some functioning) a reservation and guided tour is required.

Many centuries ago, our ancestors discovered the possibility of harnessing the power of the elements - which on the one hand could be helpful and useful, but on the other hand could also be a threat as untamed forces of nature - for various purposes and thus be able to do without human or animal muscle power. Mills like these are a good example of the human engineering skills of earlier generations: the heavy millstones used to grind grain into corn or press oil, for example, could be powered by the wind or - as here - water.
