The old seat of the chiefs - today the courthouse - worth seeing and romantic.

The castle was built in 1852. The lower part of the south wing with the tower dates from the 15th century.

The new castle was built during the time when the castle belonged to the Kingdom of Hanover (1815 - 1866). As an administrative building, it replaced a castle complex belonging to the East Frisian chiefs Cirksena.

The regional court has been located in the eastern part of the building since 1879. From 1885 to 1978, the western part of the building was the administrative seat of the regional president in East Frisia and then part of the branch office of the Weser-Ems district government until 1997. Now, in addition to the Aurich regional court, the Lower Saxony State Office for Salaries and Pensions is located in the castle building.

Both the stable building and the castle are part of the Lower Saxony State Office for Salaries and Pensions Aurich.
