Best Mountain Biking Routes to Evangelical Lutheran Church of Seidingstadt

Tips

  • The beautiful church is in the middle of the village. The Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Seidingstadt is in Seidingstadt, a district of the municipality of Straufhain in the district of Hildburghausen (Thuringia).Because the Seidingstadt hunting lodge was used as a summer residence by the Dukes of Saxony-Hildburghausen, the local church in Seidingstadt was practically the second court church and had its own parish from 1717 to around 1826. Since then, the place has belonged to the district of Streufdorf. The core of today's church building dates back to 1703 and replaced a late Gothic church. In 1836 the church was rebuilt. The nave and the church tower were increased by one storey. A second gallery floor was installed in the nave. The facade is characterized by large arched windows. The organ, which was built in 1836 by the Römhilde master organ builder Johann Heinrich Schmidt, is located on a gallery in the polygonal choir room. It has ten registers on manual and pedal. The pulpit is a work from the 18th century, the baptismal font, made of sandstone, was created in 1704.The church tower stands on the north side, next to the nave and chancel. On the ground floor it houses the sacristy, three meters long and three meters wide, which is spanned by a ribless cross vault. The lower two floors are medieval. The spire was put on in 1896 after a fire had destroyed the tower roof a year earlier. In 2000 the church was renovated inside and out. Two bronze bells from the time of construction were delivered in 1917 and replaced by cast steel bells in 1920. The third and largest bronze bell was melted down in 1943. Static problems required the construction of a new belfry in 2013. In 2014, three new bronze bells were cast to replace the worn cast steel bells
