The first church was built around 1300, and the chancel, the old sacristy and a Gothic window on the east side of the tower are still a reminder of this. At that time, the church and the surrounding cemetery formed a fortified complex that served as a place of refuge for the population in uncertain times. In 1609 - 1611, the tower was raised by a fourth post-Gothic storey. 1651 Reconstruction after destruction in the Thirty Years' War. 1707 The church was extended to the south and two windows were added to the west. During this reconstruction, the west façade was erected with the coat of arms of Prince-Bishop Lothar Franz von Schönborn. The design was by Leonhard Dientzenhofer, and the master builder was Balthasar Caminata. The figures on the façade were made by Johann Caspar Metzner, the master of the Gabelmann fountain in Bamberg. 1713 Pulpit with evangelists, the depiction of the Pentecost miracle and the Trinity are by Sebastian Degler. He also designed the 22 figures on the gallery, Saint Michael on the south wall and other figures.
1719 The Mount of Olives and the Entombment of Christ were placed in front of the facade. The figures were created by Leonhard Gollwitzer from Waidhaus.
1977, on the 200th anniversary of Ferdinand Tietz's death, the casts of the figures that the artist created for the cemetery wall were placed back on the church wall. Tietz is buried near the church. The originals of his works of art are in Seehof Castle. 1984 A new octagonal sacristy was added. The cross-carrier with angels on the outer wall comes from Veitshöchheim.

The Catholic Church of the Assumption of Mary in Memmelsdorf was originally built around 1300, but the Thirty Years' War destroyed everything except the tower. Reconstruction began in 1650. Further renovations followed in the following years.
