Coniston is the 5th largest of the Lake District lakes at just over 5miles long.
John Ruskin lived on the banks and declared the view of the Old Man of Coniston from across the lake as the finest in England. Arthur Ransome based Swallows and Amazons here and maybe one of the three islands is Wild Cat Island?

A nice place to sit and take the lake in.
Can get busy in the summer months though.
