Giau Saddle

The magnificent Giau pass, located between the majestic Lastoi di Formin and Mount Cernera, connects the Giau pass to the enchanting Mondeval plateau. The panorama offers a spectacular view of the greenery of Mondeval on one side and the imposing Cernera mountain on the other, with the Lastoi dominating the scene. In the background, to the south, you can admire Pelmo and Civetta (divided by Mount Mondeval), while to the north stand Ra Gusela and Tofane. On the Mondeval plateau there are also remains from the Mesolithic period.

This saddle is the northern entrance to the plateau of Mondeval, one of Italy's UNESCO World Natural Heritage areas. The site is facinating in many terms including geology, geomorphology and archaeology.
The Mondeval Man - an incredibly well preserved skeleton of a hunter lived in the Mesolithic age 7500 years ago - was excavated here in 1987.
