Tips

  • The old stone bridge that leads from Posterstein to Nöbdenitz over the Sprottenbach is called "Mönchsbrücke". Since ancient times, the legend has reported that an underground passage from Posterstein Castle had its secret exit under the Mönchsbrücke. Such secret corridors are said to lead from the castle to Crimmitschau, Ronneburg, Lohma, Nöbdenitz and Selka. Once upon a time, villagers even walked a bit in these vaults, but then suddenly a cold draft would have come out of the castle and blown out the light. Now it happened once that two farmers from Posterstein went "fish lights" at night at the Sprottenbach. It was spawning season and the fish were right on the creek bank so they were blinded by the lamplight and were easy to catch. All of a sudden, the two fishermen stopped dead in their tracks, because they saw a monk on the bridge, who was blowing the wind with pristine white laundry. The moment a peasant began to speak, water splashed and the spook was gone. On moonlit nights, when the veil of mist floats through the meadow, the "monk" or the "white woman" still walks around the Mönchsbrücke today. But the entrances to the subterranean vaults have long been buried and no one can enter them anymore.Today, by the way, this picnic area is a Touringen stamp office.
