If you take this detour you can visit the old rainwater storage system that was built on the Montaña Guatisea volcano, in the municipality of San Bartolomé. On the south face are the maretas, a type of water collection pond.

There are six rooms excavated inside the mountain, which are connected by two side drains and a large channel to collect water.

Later, a canal was built from Las Maretas to Plaza León and Castillo de San Bartolomé, from where water was distributed to the population.

The Guatisea Mountain is an important archaeological site. On its slopes there are dozens of cave remains of the majos, the pre-Hispanic inhabitants of the island. In the volcanic tuff of the mountain you can see small bowls and drawings of various shapes.
