The Cueva de San Martín is on the clayey cliff that rises to the east of Villamoros de las Regueras, known as a 'rupestrian' church, a building documented at least since the 10th century (990). There are indications that it could be a property royal linked to the kings Sancho I and Vermudo II, related to the repopulation process of the Torío valley, full of agricultural exploitations and peasants linked to the church of San Martín.

Also known as Cueva del Moro, it was excavated in the Middle Ages. The oldest documentary reference to what was a church appears in a document from the León cathedral archive, dated July 3, 990.

Although in 2018 access was arranged to be able to visit it by digging some steps into the clay and placing a rope to facilitate the ascent, currently access is not easy. The clay ladder has disappeared and the rope is down. In August 2022, it was included in the Red List of Heritage prepared by the Hispania Nostra association due to its "possible state of conservation".

You have to be careful with the access since, currently (May 2023), the ascent is by a small path with loose earth. It is advisable to carry a cane to help yourself.
