A protected natural area established in 1974, the Lombard natural park of the Ticino valley was the first Italian regional park to be established as well as the first European river park. It stands on the banks of the river of the same name and occupies an area of almost one hundred thousand hectares. Particularly important for noteworthy flora and fauna, the Ticino park is located in Magenta, in the Ponte Vecchio area, and in addition to the province of Milan, it also involves those of Varese and Pavia.
