Mountain Biking Highlight
The "Kiesau" refers to a former open pit with an adjacent moor area on the Hennenkobel mountain near Zwiesel-Rabenstein in the Arberland Bavarian Forest. In the past, quartz - also called "gravel" in the vernacular - was mined in this pit, which gave the area the name "Kiesau".The quarry and the subsequent moor area are protected due to their geological importance and the rare animal and plant species. As a cultural monument, the quartz quarry is to remain unchanged, the moorland is being renatured further.
