The history of the pilgrimage site begins on July 25, 1703. Then, at dusk on the feast of St. Francis Pajer (Payer), a cantor and organist from nearby Všeruby, visited the mountain. He climbed to the top, plagued by sadness and mental depression. Suddenly, he said, he saw glowing clouds above him, bathing the entire surrounding landscape in a bright light. Pajer's soul was miraculously struck by the natural phenomenon. He felt healed by God's power and, in gratitude, had a small wooden chapel built on the site.
