An important pilgrimage site in the Silesian region. History The history of the building dates back to 1635, when the parish church of St. Catherine was destroyed by fire. Then Fr. Wojciech Lipnicki, from the fund of his relative Dorota Kącka, the abbess of the Convent of Norbertine Sisters in Kraków in Zwierzyniec, started the construction of a branch church. The temple was located on the top of the picturesque hill of the Lord's Transfiguration, 382 m above sea level. (Góra św. Dorota, colloquially known as Dorotka), in the city of Będzin, in the Grodziec district. In accordance with the prevailing tendency at that time, the presbytery part remained facing east. The building was surrounded by a limestone fence on lime-sand mortar, with an entrance equipped with a double-leaf steel gate. On October 10, 1638, it was solemnly consecrated by the suffragan of Kraków, Tomasz Oborski. Until 1730, it served as a parish church. Unfortunately, it was neglected and fell into disrepair. Its great importance in the region is evidenced by subsequent reconstructions carried out on the initiative of the local population. After World War II, the church underwent a thorough renovation, and in 1947, the renovated church was consecrated. The last renovation works took place in the second half of the 19th century. of the 20th century and were associated with securing the facility against the effects of mining damage. Due to its charming location, it is an undoubted showcase of the region.
