    Człuchowska Gate

Also formerly called Kamienna, one of the three entrance gates leading to the city. Built in the first half of the 14th century. From 1618 until the end of the 19th century, it served as a prison, and then until 1945 as the bell tower of the churches of St. Spirit and Saint Trinity. In the years 1952 - 1960, the interior was rebuilt and exhibition rooms were arranged, opened to visitors in 1962. Currently, there are 5 exhibition floors: 4 with permanent exhibitions (archaeology, ethnography, history, art) and a temporary exhibition hall.

I recommend the museum on the first floor of the gate (visit time approx. 30 min.)

In Chojnice, the gates represented an essential element of the city's defenses. In front of each gate was a drawbridge, defended on the other side by bridgehead towers. In the case of the Człuchów Gate, these were called "Elephant" and "Bull." The six-story Człuchów Gate was built on a square plan in the Pomeranian Gothic style. The ground floor is the entrance area, which also includes a door that probably led to the rooms containing the mechanism for raising the portcullis and the bridge.
