In 1140, St. Maximin was confirmed to be in possession of the Ebersheim church by Pope Innocent II, so it may have been built on the monastery's Fronhof. St. Alban built a chapel on what later became Töngeshof. As early as 1184, St. Alban was in possession of both this chapel and the local church. From then on, the Mainz monastery and later knight's monastery remained the owner of the church, which was incorporated into it in 1325. The tithe rights were also in his hands; only a third of the small tithe went to the pastor. The church in Gau-Bischofsheim was a branch church of Ebersheim.
Today's Catholic church was built in 1725-26 as a pilaster-structured hall building and expanded in 1908 by Ludwig Becker, Mainz, to include a transept-like hall in baroque forms with transverse barrels and a flat, closed choir. The tower dates from 1768.
