It was built in 1540 by Pope Paul III Farnese as the seat of the ducal commissariat of Val Nure and remained the seat of the Community of Val Nure until the end of the eighteenth century.
In the 19th century it became the property of the Municipality of Borgo San Bernardino who used it as a prison. Currently privately owned.
