In 1649 the plague broke out in the region. The peasants promised a chapel if they were spared. It was not until 1867 that the promise was kept. Twelve legal farmers built a large stone chapel in the center of the village. Before the Bärnzellers had their own chapel, they had to go to church in Zwiesel every Sunday. The war memorial next to the little church originally stood on the site of today's war memorial, Zwiesel town square.
