At the entrance to the Herrlichkeit Dornum you will be greeted by the last East Frisian post mill, which has been a landmark of the town since 1626. Massive oak beams and massive millstones have survived the turmoil of the centuries. Masterful craftsmanship allowed the mill to survive destructive storm surges, wind and weather. The box-shaped mill housing, the Kaast (box), is characteristic of a post mill. The Kaast is rotatable on the vertical house tree, which bears the entire weight of the mill and the wind load of the blades. The post mill is crowned (turned) into the wind with the crook reel attached to the end of the codend. The blades with a diameter of approx. 21 m drive a grinding mill and the bag elevator. During a visit, volunteer millers tell you exciting stories about the mill and the restoration in 2010.dornum.de/erlebnisse/an-land/fuehrungen/bockwindmuehle-dornum
