In the northwest, the Strabrechtse Heide connects with the Braakhuizense Heide, owned by the Het Brabants Landschap foundation; near Heeze it connects with heaths on the Heerlijkheid Heeze and the Herbertusbossen (also owned by Het Brabants Landschap). The area is partly covered by the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive. In 2006, the Strabrechtse Heide, together with part of the valley of the Kleine Dommel, was designated a Natura 2000 area under the Natura 2000 area name Strabrechtse Heide & Beuven. The part east of the heath in the municipality of Someren is traditionally called Lieropsche Heide.
