The name of the nine-tube fountain goes back to the nine metal tubes through which the spring water is led into the water troughs. Today's fountain is marked with the years 1608, 1779, 1815 and 1930. The fountain structure is crowned with two upright lions holding the grid of Saint Lawrence in their front paws. The source of the well has been the town's most important source of water since the Frankish colonization. One of the two Franconian farm groups from which the Wörrstadt settlement developed was located near the source. In the early 17th century, the spring was expanded into a nine-tube well and also supplied the Schmied and Backes wells with its water. The nine-tube fountain had no water troughs until the 18th century, so the water flowed freely onto the forecourt and from there into the Weede. In 1779 the fountain was rebuilt and stone troughs were purchased to collect the water. The fountain was renewed in 1815 due to deterioration during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1930 the fountain was renovated again.

A strange name for a fountain and the square that goes with it.
But if you can count, you will notice that 9 pipes flow into the sandstone trough on the square and distribute their spring water there. The square was previously used as a watering hole for cattle and horses.
Today the square has been really spruced up and in the summer it is a meeting place for everyone who wants to enjoy an ice cream or a pizza (pizzeria closed on Saturdays!!!)
