Enthusiastic about hunting, Landgrave Ernst Ludwig von Hessen-Darmstadt (1667-1739) had the Mönchbruch hunting lodge built in what is now the nature reserve. At that time he introduced par force hunting based on the French model, which means: by force, and means a hunt in which dogs accompany riders. The terrain therefore had to be quite flat and suitable for fast rides. In addition, aisles were needed that radiated out from the hunting lodge in a star shape. Fallow deer were brought in and the deadly hustle and bustle began. Even today, at fixed times, not only fallow deer are moored there. Guest houses were built in the baroque pavilions near the Mönchbruchmühle hotel. Since 2010 it has been possible to tie the knot in a wedding room in the Jagdschloss. You can then celebrate in the garden or in the restaurant. The ensemble includes the hotel, a restaurant and a beer garden. One sees, among other things, a very long half-timbered building, one storey under a large mansard roof. It is crowned with a turret in the middle above the entrance gate. The building has two shorter wings which, together with the three pavilions, form an inner courtyard. The baroque pavilions are also one-storey, have windows with shutters and each have a high mansard roof. They have nice names like Jägerbau or Kavalierbau.
