Petes Lake Recreation Area

Embark on the Bruno's Run Trail for a moderate hiking experience through gently rolling country in the Hiawatha National Forest. This 10.3-mile (16.6 km) route, with a modest 241 feet (74 metres) of elevation gain, typically takes about 4 hours and 15 minutes to complete. As you hike, you will wind past several small, secluded lakes like Moccasin Lake and McKeever Lake, which are characteristic of the region's glacial plain. The path leads you through varied trees and plants, including impressive sections of old-growth white pine, creating a beautiful forest landscape.

You can access the route from multiple points, with Pete's Lake Campground and Widewaters being common starting locations. Permits are not required for camping or campfires along the trail, but always exercise caution with fire. Be aware that this is a multi-use trail, so you might encounter bicyclists during warmer months or snowshoers in winter, depending on the season.
