The Leipzig - Großkorbetha railway was opened in 1856. It was soon one of the busiest routes in Central Germany and was also used by ICE trains until the Erfurt - Leipzig high-speed route was commissioned. The Saale Bridge near Bad Dürrenburg is about 250 m long and crosses the river with numerous arches.
