The ladders can only be climbed or descended by those who dare to climb over a 3 meter high boulder using a rope. The ladders are not the problem, but letting go would be stupid or fatal.
Above the ladders you either have to slide down with the help of a rickety rope or use a lot of force to climb up from below. The boulder has no handles or steps - it only works by friction.
