In this position, in 1915, one of the defensive strongholds of the Austro-Hungarian army was established during the Great War which repelled attacks from the Third Army until August 1916.
Subsequently the position came under Italian control and the trenches were transformed into the front line, interspersing machine gun positions and caves adapting the pre-existing Austro-Hungarian lines.
