The 18th-century San Miguel Fort has played a checkered history in battles between the Spaniards, Portuguese and Uruguayans and was lovingly restored from ruins in the 1930s and, thanks to yellow lichen, makes a very interesting visual contrast to the surrounding landscape.
The museum contains many interesting artifacts related to military history and costs 50 pesos (2023) to enter.
