The Cathedral of Ancona is the cathedral of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ancona-Osimo, dedicated to St. Judas Cyriacus. The current form of the cathedral was created between the 11th and 13th centuries on the top of Monte Guasco, the oldest settlement in the city, where a Venus temple was located in Greek and Roman times. The striking building represents a point of reference for seafarers and is also a vantage point for a wide view over land and sea. The Romanesque building is oriented to the NE and rises above the ground plan of a Greek (equal-armed) cross, which is closed at the transepts by apses and is crowned by a twelve-sided dome above the transept.
