The church in Beelitz was first mentioned in a document in 1247. The field stones in the west transept bear witness to this first construction. Bricked-up pointed arches in the base suggest that the church was built higher over time - rubble from several city fires was piled up all around. A special feature of the church can be found in the small octagonal building, which is attached to the side of the nave. In May 1235, a so-called miracle of blood is said to have occurred: during a supper at the Corpus Christi procession, traces of blood are said to have appeared. As a result, an octagonal chapel was built in the appropriate place not far from the church and the previously remote town of Beelitz became a nationally important place of pilgrimage. Around 1511 the church was vaulted and rebuilt in brick into a flat-roofed, three-aisled pillar basilica. The Wunderblut chapel was also connected to the church interior and is now accessible from inside the church.
