The Holy Family (also: Orphanage Church) in the Sülz district of Cologne is a church building in Sülz that served as the church of the former orphanage on the Sülzgurtel. It was profaned after 2010 and converted into a cultural and multifunctional center as part of the housing development of the surrounding area.
The Church of the Holy Family was built by Gottfried Böhm in 1955 as the former center of the municipal children's home. After its desecration, the two-storey building will house the administration of the Cologne-Sülz housing cooperative on the ground floor and, as a cultural church, will enable concerts, exhibitions, celebrations and meetings on the upper floor. Facing the city, the building has a new entrance structure, which leads up to the church with a spacious staircase. Two connecting bridges to the neighboring buildings were demolished and will be replaced by new floating steel structures. The offices are grouped as open workspaces. Individual glazed meeting and office rooms create a rhythm in this place of work and communication, which is transparent to the surrounding city. Internal stairs lead up to the bridge components with further workplaces and social rooms.
The interior of the church is being remodeled very subtly with a reception desk for events, an open elevator, room acoustic surfaces and a new lighting concept. The new ventilation system is located in the church tower
