Today, we can only say that it was to the West of the City; referring its name to Santa María del Guadiana, leaving only the memory of this door.

It is known, through a local historian, that the door or shutter of "Santa María" was assaulted during the first Carlist war: It was May 27, 1838, when Palillos "appeared in front of the walls of Ciudad Real, capital , with his forces, trying to pass at dawn the next day through the door (postigo) of Santa María; but without any result, he withdrew to Miguelturra without any loss other than that of some worker from the town, whom he forced to work in the demolition of the walls".

The Puerta de Santa María, also known as the Puerta de Antiguo Convento de las Dominicas de Altagracia, is located in Ciudad Real. This gate is located in the place where one of the eight gates of the old wall of Villa Real used to be. Although the convent to which it belonged was demolished in the 70s of the last century, the door still remains as a historical testimony.
