The Kromme IJssel starts in Nieuwegein and is a branch of the Hollandse IJssel, where it takes a sharp turn to the north at the Doorslag. The first part flows along the IJsselbos, then it goes under the A2 and curves around the Het Klaphek area, before the river continues to flow as the Enge IJssel.
