Y Lliwedd's highest West Peak is at 2,946 feet (898m). It's part of the classic Snowdon Horseshoe and is also often used by tough mountain and Sky races. The mountain has an almost vertical north-east face with impressive cliffs down towards Llyn Llydaw, this is the face you see while running along Crib Goch or from the Pyg or Miners Track.
When climbing Y Lliwedd most runners will approach along the awesome scrambly ridge from the Snowdon summit or start from Pen y Pass and running the steep ridge path from the junction with the Miners Track at Llyn Llydaw. Either way it's a brilliant scrambly ridge, never particularly technical but certainly hands on.
In high winds or winter conditions this is a very serious summit with big consequences.
