The Benningen fort was a Roman military camp on the Neckar line of the Neckar-Odenwald Limes. It is an archaeological monument in a largely undeveloped area on the eastern edge of the present-day town of Benningen am Neckar, a municipality in the Ludwigsburg district in Baden-Württemberg. It was part and center of a larger military-civilian settlement agglomeration in the area where the Murr flows into the Neckar.

Hiking

The Benningen fort was built in the Domitian period, probably around 85 AD, initially as a wood-earth structure. It was part of a series of six military installations that were used to militarily secure a stretch of about 60 km along the Neckar, stretching from the Wimpfen fort in the valley to the Köngen fort.
