Tips

  • << Grafitti Oasis Iserlohn at the Kissíng & Möllmann factory >>
"Kissing & Möllmann (also K&M) was founded in 1826 by the Iserlohn entrepreneur Ferdinand Möllmann and Johann Hermann Kissing. The company started production with a bronze goods factory. Until 1834 the company was called Kissing, Möllmann & Co.. In 1865 the company received the concession to build a metal foundry and so the bronze goods factory was moved from Wasserstrasse to the newly built factory on Bachstrasse (later street name Obere Mühle) in 1864. The main building was added to and expanded in 1898.
As a commission trading house, Kissing & Möllmann was one of the most important in Westphalia. Italy, Spain as well as Germany and Russia were the main sales areas. Kissing & Möllmann manufactured, among other things, fittings, candlesticks and ship bells.
The company became known nationally from 1872 onwards through its own production of coffee grinders. In 1894 Kissing & Möllmann had 120 employees and manufactured 200,000 coffee grinders annually. The company was the largest coffee grinder manufacturer in Germany. At that time, K&M was also the first company to produce printed tin coffee grinders. From around 1890 the company started producing fittings.
As a result of the First World War, commission trading was severely restricted and subsequently no longer reached pre-war levels. He was hired in 1963. The company was able to survive the global economic crisis and the Second World War, but had to file for bankruptcy in 1980 and came to a standstill.
Parts of the historic factory complex south of Iserlohn's city center have been under monument protection since 1986 due to their industrial-historical significance for the city. After the company Kissing & Möllmann (K&M) gave up production activities in 1980, the empty buildings were gradually appropriated by different users. In the last few decades, a thriving subculture has developed here with a mixture of housing, low-threshold cultural and social institutions and small businesses. However, due to the lack of approval for the majority of the uses, the city of Iserlohn evicted the property after a lengthy period of negotiations with the previous owner on May 24, 2018. ..."
