The church of San Giovanni in Sinis is located near Cabras on the Sinis peninsula in the province of Oristano in Sardinia, right next to the Phoenician-Punic necropolis of the ancient city of Tharros. The burial ground was still used in early Christian times, as evidenced by a number of artefacts.San Giovanni di Sinis is one of the most interesting in terms of church history because it is the oldest Byzantine church in Sardinia. The current three-aisled church is the result of a later modification of a cruciform Byzantine church of the 6th or 7th century, which was built in Roman ashlar construction. She exerted a strong influence on the church buildings of the following epochs. From the outside, the cubic elements with the central elevation by a dome over the crossing, the oldest part of the church, are clearly visible. Inside there are imposts, chunky pillars connected by archivolts and traces of what was once a barrel vault.Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Giovanni_in_Sinis
